Early 1970s Greco FV-500 Flying V Cherry Red (Matsumoku Pre-Serial)
Before Fujigen, there was Matsumoku, the precursor to some of the finest electric guitars ever made. Initially a woodworking plant, Matsumoku was realised to be an excellent candidate for guitar manufacturing due to their wood drying and processing facilities. In 1962, it started producing guitars under the watchful eye of Fujigen founder Yuichiro Yokouchi. The rest is history! The FV-500 is one of the earliest Flying V copies made in Japan, and this particular one is a bolt on design from before 1975 (that's when they started using serial numbers). Based on a catalog we can put this one about 1973.
This one is all original aside from a brand new Switchcraft jack socket and new scratchplate screws we've installed, the electronics are smooth and quiet and the original Greco embossed Maxon pickups sound absolutely incredible. She's a bit of a road warrior and someone has definitely loved this guitar and played it a lot - there is a fair share of chips, dings, scratches and relocated strap pins, however all is honest wear and very much adds to the vibe of the instrument. No structural issues whatsoever. Freshly setup and professionally serviced with 10-46s, this V is ready for another few decades of shredding!
