1970s Guyatone Custom EP-40 Precision Bass Sparkle Green (MIJ)
Made in the mid-1970s by Guyatone, this EP-40 is branded with Guyatone's script logo and bears "Custom Made" on the headstock, and is a faithful and surprisingly accurate replica of Fender's famous Precision Bass. With a body built from sen ash and a maple neck with a maple fingerboard, it's also wearing a very striking sparkle green refinish that appears to have been done quite some time ago in Japan by a professional luthier, setting this bass apart from the typical sunburst finish these basses came in.
For fans of big necks, this bass certainly has you covered with a chunky D shape profile with plenty of depth to wrap the hand around. The maple is nicely figured and has a slab maple fingerboard as well as a rosewood skunk stripe. A 44mm bone nut has been installed (aftermarket), however the original open gear tuners and string tree are present and in great working order. Frets are solid with plenty of life left (approximately 90%) and only minor pitting present.
The original Maxon split coil pickup has a big and throaty tone with plenty of output and a balanced frequency range. It's a P Bass, so it's got you covered for every genre imaginable and is extremely versatile in terms of sound. The electronics have been upgraded with CTS pots and a Switchcraft output jack for maximum reliability and noise free operation.
Overall, this bass presents extremely well for a 50 year old instrument and is in fantastic working order. Professionally setup and serviced with 45-100s, it plays wonderfully with a low action and a straight neck. Balanced in weight and sound, it's perfect for anyone looking for a super unique alternative to a 70s Fender with a fantastic refinish and tasteful upgrades.

We offer free Australia-wide shipping for orders over $200 via standard courier services. For smaller items such as small parts and screws, we send via Australia Post regular mail service. All items below $200 are a flat $8.99 shipping rate. Express services are also available at an extra cost, just select it at the checkout and we'll get your order out extra fast!
How long does shipping take?
It varies based on the destination and the products ordered. Orders for items that are in stock with our Lewisham store "135 New Canterbury Road, Lewisham 2049", are usually shipped same day, however items ordered from "Deep Tone Warehouse Supply" are special order items that are not stocked in the store. These items can take 2-4 business days to arrive to us from the supplier; from there, the item will be dispatched from our store and the nominated method of shipping will be followed:
For "Standard" shipping:
- VIC, SA and NSW: 2-4 days
- QLD: 3-5 days
- NT, WA and TAS: 5-10 days +
For "Express" shipping:
- VIC, SA and NSW: 1-2 days
- QLD: 1-2 days
