Late 1960s Guyatone EB-4 Short Scale Electric Bass Guitar (Red)

Made in Japan in the late 1960s, this Guyatone EB-4 is an exceptional example of a Guyatone's unrelenting commitment to making the quirkiest and most unique instruments on the Japanese market. Taking obvious inspiration from 50s and 60s automotive America, we have a lot of bling here with big chrome covers, beautiful angles and curves and overall a super fast, offset aesthetic.

We need to mention, this neck is THICK. If you like them thick, this one is for you. Think baseball bat U shape on steroids. Short scale length at 30.1", playability is surprisingly good given the size of the neck and it feels very comfortable in the hands. A refret with medium tall frets has been done at some point as these normally have tiny, non-existent frets, so the larger frets are a welcome addition and lend to much greater playability.

Big mudbucker tones from the original Guyatone humbucker, these were made in-house by Guyatone in the 1960s and have a fantastic and very unique tone to them. Stacks of bottom end on tap here with nice, healthy output without sounding too boomy.

In 100% original and fantastic condition for its age (aside from a few replaced screws), this bass has been professionally serviced and setup with 45-100s. It's playing very nicely with a smooth, medium action, accurate intonation and nice note articulation. The finish has aged nicely, however the bass has its fair share of dings, dents and scratches that come with a bass of this vintage. Overall, this is a super cool instrument with tons of vintage vibe and tone on tap!
